Yesterday, GM announced the official price of its upcoming EV (Electric Vehicle). I’ve reported on the Volt before, but with a price and a government tax break, the Volt is getting closer to reality. The base price? $41,000. The rumor? It requires premium fuel.

In a not-so-surprising press release, GM has announced that the battery packs for its upcoming Chevrolet Volt Electric Vehicle (EV) will be backed by an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty. GM originally wanted the battery pack to last the life of the vehicle, and with their extensive testing of the Volt’s unique powertrain, it could very well do that.

If you’re a regular reader, you probably know how the Chevrolet Volt works, but if not, the video below will help you visualize the goings-on underneath the hood. Given the inherent complexity in an electric car, especially one with a “range extender” gasoline engine onboard, it’s a good thing GM has created this video showing easy-to-understand graphics. It may not sound exciting, but if you’re a fan of GM, electric vehicles or cars in general, you’ll like this milestone: GM has produced the first production Volt battery pack in its Brownstown Battery Pack Assembly Plant.
The Volt has been mentioned here before in passing, both good and bad, but the gist of it is that it will be an electric vehicle with a “range extender” engine, which runs on conventional gasoline, giving drivers an electric-only range of up to 40 miles and a gas-assisted range of around 300 miles, without requiring the driver to do anything special. Drivers can plug in their Volt when at home, or run on gasoline when traveling further than the car’s batteries will go.

The Chevrolet Volt has plenty going for it – a new chassis, electric vehicle operation, a nice interior (from what has been shown so far). Then, the video below showed up. Bad dancing doesn’t help out the lackluster song, both of which are far too repetitive, and whomever decided that breakdancing mixes well with the 70′s-style dancing needs to have their head examined. If you’ve got the stomach for bad video, go ahead and hit play on the video, otherwise, take my word for it: you’re not missing out on much of anything! Follow the jump to see the video.
