Test Drive: 2011 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD

For 2011, Ford released its first full redesign of its storied Explorer since the 2002 update.  It’s no longer truck-based, instead owing parts of its underpinnings to Volvo, Ford and Lincoln vehicles.  Yet, it rides up high, has 3 rows of seating, a “terrain management” knob for all 4 of its driven wheels, which puts it in the CUV/SUV category.  Read on for my driving impressions of Ford’s new Explorer.

Owner’s Log: Service Visit for 2010 Nissan Maxima

Since about two months into the ownership of my 2010 Nissan Maxima SV, I noticed a popping noise when going over certain bumps. Through some online research, I found out that some of the bolts holding the roof structure together needed to be torqued down, as per Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) NTB09-132. The TSB requires the headliner to be dropped, so I wanted it done before I got the windows tinted, because dropping the headliner could accidentally scratch the tint film.  Continue reading for lots of pictures and my experience at the dealership.

Thanks Phil!  If you’d like to submit your own Owner’s Log updates, please use the Contact Form to submit them.

Over the past few generations of Nissan’s sedans, the Altima and Maxima, a lot of people have started to wonder why both continue to be built.  Whereas the Maxima used to be a bigger sedan than the Altima, it had actually become smaller.  Then a redesign of the Maxima in 2004 made it bigger again, but it lost some of the sporty demeanor it has been known for.  In 2009, Nissan redesigned the Maxima again, this time trying to get back to its 4-Door Sports Car (4DSC) roots.  Smaller than its predecessor, but wearing much more sculpted sheetmetal, how does the new Maxima drive?  Read on for my impression.

New Road Reality Feature: Owner’s Log

The review for the 2010 Nissan Maxima that I bought in March is still forthcoming … I promise!  It’s been one hurdle after another to get some good pictures of it.  The wording is all ready to go, but alas, it’s been mostly crappy weather here in the DC Metro area, and when the weather IS nice, I’ve been too busy or the camera’s batteries weren’t charged.  But enough excuses, I’m at least going to start the “Owner’s Log” section of the web site!
