GM Recalls 322,000 Impalas over Faulty Seatbelts

GM has announced a recall of over 322,000 2009-2010 Chevrolet Impalas over a fairly serious seatbelt anchor issue. The outermost anchor which attaches the seatbelt to the seat may have been installed improperly, which can lead to a separation in an accident. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified of the recall starting around October 25th. Dealers will inspect the anchor and replace if necessary. GM Recalls 243,000 Crossovers over Seatbelt issue

If you’re an owner of a 2009-2010 GM-built 3-row crossover, including the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, expect a recall letter in the mail. GM has announced a recall of the 2nd row seatbelt, after several complaints of the seatbelt not functioning properly after the seat is folded flat and then returned to its upright position.

GM hasn’t had any complaints of injuries during crashes because of this issue, but believes it could cause a problem, hence the recall. The defect can trick passengers into thinking the seatbelt is latched when in fact it isn’t. This defect also causes “cosmetic damage” to the seatbelt latch and seat side trim cover, as well as making it harder to return the 2nd row seat to its upright position.
