Toyota created its Scion brand in order to draw in more youthful buyers, promising fresh designs every few years, and individual models only getting a single run before being replaced. It’s curious to see that Toyota isn’t replacing the outgoing designs with new model designations. As it is, the current models have been around for several years, and while the Scion tC has soldiered on with minor changes, the xD and xB have both been redesigned, the latter being featured here. In 2001, the Mini Cooper really brought the small car to America. BMW, the current owner of the Mini brand, showed that Americans were willing to pay for a premium small car. The Mini gets good gas mileage, has “go kart” handling, plenty of creature comforts, and sells for thousands more than its same-size siblings.
