2011 Ford F-150 to get 3 new engine choices

Automotive News is reporting that Ford will be giving buyers of its F-150 pickup truck 3 new engine choices for the 2011 model year.  Those new choices include a 3.7-liter V6, which replaces the current base V8, a 5.0-liter V8, and an EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6.  If any of those choices sound familiar, you’re right.  The first two engines are found in the V6 and V8 2011 Mustang, respectively.  The third one, the EcoBoost V6, is available in several Ford and Lincoln models.

2011 Lincoln MKX: EPA Certification

This week, the EPA gave Ford the results from its fuel economy tests on the new 2011 Lincoln MKX, and the numbers are great for a crossover of its size: 19/26 city/highway, with a combined 21 mpg.  That’s for the front-wheel drive (FWD) model, so expect the all-wheel drive (AWD) model to get 17/24 city/highway, and 20 mpg combined.

1,000 Laps of Mustang: The Results Are In!

Way back in March, I reported that Ford was challenging itself to a race in its new Mustang.  But not with a bunch of them, only one.  The race wasn’t even against time, it was against fuel mileage.  With EPA-certified 19/31 city/highway gas mileage for the 2011 Mustang V6, Ford wanted to really show consumers that it wasn’t just hype.  So they set off for Bristol Speedway in Tennessee for the event.

Jay Leno’s Garage: 2011 Ford Mustang GT

Jay Leno may be known for The Tonight Show, but outside of that, he’s known for his web show, Jay Leno’s Garage.  This week, Jay took out a 2011 Ford Mustang GT, and put it through a fairly thorough test drive, including freeways, corners, and even a burnout.  He does a walk-around with the car, showing off some of its features, and he harps on the 412-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine a lot.  Jay Leno has a 65 Mustang GT350, one of the faster variants from the 1960′s, and he apparently loves driving it.  After driving the 2011 model, he agrees, and even goes as far as comparing it to pricier cars from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.  Click past the jump to see the video.

Ford Fiesta: 40MPG Highway, 29MPG City

Well, I’ve said a few things about the upcoming Ford Fiesta before, but now the EPA has given it the official fuel economy workout, and the results are impressive: 29 MPG in the city, and 40 MPG on the highway.  After getting their new 2011 Mustang V6 a rating of 19/31 city/highway, Ford is on a roll with its new small car.  The fuel economy numbers for the Fiesta are well above the average car, bordering on diesel and hybrid levels of fuel thriftiness.  Mind you, this is for Fiestas equipped with the optional automatic transmission.  The Fiestas rivals, namely the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris, get 5 and 4 less mpg on the highway, respectively.  The Fiesta will go on sale this summer, and looks to be a hot seller in the compact car arena.

2011 Mustang wins Motor Trend’s Pony Car Wars

Last year, Motor Trend took a 2010 Ford Mustang GT, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, and a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T and compared them.  They got all sorts of feedback, ranging from readers who were upset because the top-dog Challenger SRT-8 wasn’t in the test, to those who felt the Chevy shouldn’t have won, no matter how much (or little) it was better than the Ford.  Read on for my synopsis and a link to the article.
