Honda and Isuzu Joint Recall over Suspension Corrosion

2002 Honda Passport

In the latter part of the 1990s, Honda and Isuzu had a joint effort to create SUVs, namely the Honda Passport and Isuzu Rodeo.  The Isuzu Axiom used a lot of underpinnings for the aforementioned SUVs, so it too suffers from the same malady causing the recall.  It turns out that vehicles exposed to “highly corrosive materials,” such as the road salt used in more northern states, experience premature wear and possible breaking of the rear suspension brackets.  Click past the jump for the model years, more details, and the press release.

There was a post I made at NHTSA investigating steering issues on 2011 Sonata?, where The Detroit News was reporting that an investigation was under way into the 2011 Hyundai Sonata over a steering issue, namely the linkages involved?  Well, Hyundai and the NHTSA have officially recalled 139,500 2011 Sonatas for that same issue.  Click past the jump for more details and the press release.

Update: No Solution Yet for Toyota Sienna Spare Tire Recall

It’s been 5 months, and as several readers have pointed out,  Toyota still hasn’t come up with a fix for the spare tires falling off of 1998-2010 Sienna minivans.  In the mean time, I’ve placed a call to Toyota’s PR department and am expecting a response shortly.

NHTSA investigating steering issues on 2011 Sonata?

As a maker of inexpensive vehicles, Hyundai has come a long way.  They started as the maker of the Excel, an almost universally hated automobile (right up there with the Yugo), to being on American consumers’ buy list in the last few years.  With recent releases like the Genesis and Genesis Coupe, and then the 2011 Sonata, you’d expect Hyundai to be riding high.  Not so fast.  It started a few weeks after the 2011 Sonata went on sale, and continues today, with the NHTSA investigating steering problems with the redesigned family hauler.

Update: 2010 Prius DOES have braking issues

From the previous posts on this subject, it has become apparent that the 3rd generation Prius, starting with the 2010 model, has issues when braking.  It seems that on slippery or bumpy surfaces, a loss of braking can occur.  In a move that is no longer shocking for Toyota, it appears that they knew about the issue and didn’t tell anyone until it became news earlier this week.  Hiroyuki Yokoyama, Toyota’s manager of Quality Control, told the New York Times that they had fixed the issue and any 2010 model year Prius sold since late January has the fix built in.  No specific date was mentioned, but expect when a recall is announced.  While Toyota has yet to confirm a recall, I highly doubt they can let this one go without announcing another recall.
