LA Auto Show 2011: The 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302

Introduced for the 2011 model year, the spiritual successor to the Boss 302 of the late 1960s and early 1970s combined speed and handling with Ford’s Mustang GT.  The result was nothing short of amazing, with comparisons to BMW’s M3, among others.  For the 2013 model year, Ford is cranking the Boss 302 up another notch, mostly in its appearance.  Read on for more details and Ford’s press release.

So, I’ve already shown pictures and gone through the big changes for the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500, and now it’s time to delve into its more mass-market brother, the Mustang (and Mustang GT).  With a refresh in 2010 and new engines for the 2011 model year, the Mustang isn’t due for another big redesign until 2015.  Until then, a few minor modifications will have to suffice.  Read on for pictures and details, as well as Ford’s press release.

LA Auto Show 2011: Ford Announces 2013 Shelby GT500

After the “Terminator” Cobra was discontinued when its platform was replaced for the 2005 model year, a gap was left in Ford’s Mustang lineup.  Starting with model year 2007, Ford’s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) began building the Shelby GT500.  Based on a Ford Mustang, but tweaked from hood to rear spoiler, the GT500 has held the spot of top factory Mustang.  At the LA Auto Show this month, Ford pulled the wraps off of the 2013 Shelby GT500.  Read on for the laundry list of tweaks Ford’s engineers made, as well as the official press release.

Fun Stuff: Polish Mustang Gathering (with Video)

It’s not every day that a new car-related video impresses me, but the video after the jump sure did!  A group of Ford Mustang fans from Poland got together and cooked up this one.  It’s clean, features lots of shiny go-fast sheetmetal, and the music isn’t obnoxious, like in so many home-brewed movies.  In addition to the cinematography, there’s plenty of hooliganisms going on – smoky burnouts and the like.  Click past the jump for the 5 minute, 23 second long video.

Fun Stuff: Porsche 911 GT2 RS Video

As far as track-oriented cars go, Porsche holds the keys to several of them, mostly variants of their iconic 911 sports car.  The GT2 RS is one of these.  With 620 horsepower, 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and rear-wheel drive, it ought to be fun to drive.  Add in the six-digit price, and not a lot of people will get that opportunity.  Hence the video after the jump, where the narrator and test driver just can’t help himself.

Sales Figures: August, 2010

The numbers are (mostly) in, and the news isn’t good.  August sales were down over 5% from July’s, and none of the major automakers were even close to the amount of vehicles they moved in July.  Toyota took the biggest hit percentage-wise, followed by Ford and GM.  Honda was only down about 4,000 vehicles overall, and almost everyone else stayed flat.  The only companies to have better sales month-to-month were Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz.
