The 2011 Ford Explorer … in the snow! (w/Video!)

It’s winter time in the United States, and for a great number of us, that means snow!  While the white stuff is pretty look at, it wreaks havoc with our road system.  Further, many drivers simply don’t know how to adjust their driving habits for foul weather, and end up playing bumper cars.  Click past the jump to see how well the 2011 Ford Explorer helps its driver stay on course.

Test Drive: 2011 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD

For 2011, Ford released its first full redesign of its storied Explorer since the 2002 update.  It’s no longer truck-based, instead owing parts of its underpinnings to Volvo, Ford and Lincoln vehicles.  Yet, it rides up high, has 3 rows of seating, a “terrain management” knob for all 4 of its driven wheels, which puts it in the CUV/SUV category.  Read on for my driving impressions of Ford’s new Explorer.

2011 Ford Explorer Achieves 25% Increase in Fuel Economy

The 2011 Ford Explorer, which has undergone an extensive redesign, so far as to make it car-based rather than truck-based, has another ace up its sleeve in the new crossover/SUV wars: a bump to 17/25 city/highway gas mileage for its base V6, a full 25% increase over last year’s V6 model.  Click past the jump for more details and the full press release.

Unveiled: 2011 Dodge Durango

It might’ve had a name change.  It might’ve gone under the Ram brand.  But no, the 2011 Dodge Durango remains a Dodge, and the new model retains its predecessor’s muscle and most of its abilities.  Though it’s now built on a unit-body chassis like the 2011 Ford Explorer, the new Durango can still tow – up to 6,200 lbs with the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 and 7,400 lbs with the Hemi V8.  Read on for more details and high-resolution pictures.

Most Expensive 2011 Ford Explorer: $50,710

After having trouble getting the 2011 Ford Explorer Build & Price site to work this afternoon, I was finally able to get a “maxed-out” price for the V6 model, which is the only one configurable right now.  The grand total is $50,710, which includes the Platinum White Tri-Coat paint and every available option.  This figure also includes the $805 destination charge for Ford to deliver your new ride to your dealer.

2011 Ford Explorer configuration site gives away pricing

The cat’s out of the bag, and most of the prices for the new 2011 Ford Explorer are available.  Base price for the V6 model is $28,190, plus an additional $800 delivery charge.  Ford has also released the configuration utility, called Build & Price, for the 2011 Explorer.  As of now, it’s limited to V6 models only, so no word yet on the turbo 4-cylinder prices.  Click here to configure your own.  While prices start at $28,190 for a front wheel drive base model, the top trim level Limited starts at $37,190, $39,190 with 4WD.  Add up all the options, and you’re talking high-$40,000s – well into Lincoln territory.  Does this mean that Lincoln’s crossovers will have to move up in price as well?
