Owner’s Log: 2011 Ford F-150 Lariat (4/2014 – 7/2014)

OwnersLog2Another three months has gone by, and although my F-150 isn’t being driven as much, due to my Mini replacing it as my main commuting vehicle, it’s still a great truck. Now, a full two years and nine months has gone by, and the F-150 still looks and feels fresh inside and out, and the only thing I’d replace it with would be another truck.  Continue reading for the run-down on what my Ford has been up to lately.

We Live in a Great Time For Automobiles

2015 Ford Mustang ConvertibleWhile automobiles were just beginning to mature around this time in the 20th century, their popularity and status is waning (at least in the US) early in this one.  As recent studies suggest, the all-day Saturday test drive has been replaced with Internet research and social media polling.  Up to 11% of new-car buyers don’t even test drive the car they end up buying.

Risky Business: Ford’s New 2015 F-150

15FordF150_02Ford has had pretty good success with its most recent new cars.  The redesigned Escape, Focus and Fusion have all gotten off to pretty good starts, with only a few recalls and issues to deal with.  Not bad considering that all three were new from the ground up, including the engines.  This year, Ford is releasing its new Mustang and F-150, both of which promise to raise the bars in their respective segments.  While the new Mustang’s styling and independent rear suspension may turn off some loyal Mustang buyers, the new aluminum F-150 is Ford’s gamble with what has been the top truck in America for almost 40 years and contributes to up to 30% of Ford’s profits year after year.  Continue reading to see why I think it’s a risky move, and what Ford has done to mitigate that risk.

Video: Jeff Gordon Pranks Used Car Salesman

PepsiMaxCommercialScreenGrabPepsi Max and Jeff Gordon teamed up to prank an unsuspecting used car salesman, using a mis-marked Chevrolet Camaro (Chevrolet didn’t build the new Camaro for the 2009 model year), some strategically-placed cameras, and a clever idea.  Putting the NASCAR driver behind the wheel of a street car leads to some not-safe-for-work language (which is bleeped out) and general hooliganism.  While it’s most likely staged, it’s still quite entertaining.  An article explaining some of the production can be found here.  Check it out below.

2014_GM_Truck_Webcast_screengrabThe current-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks have been on the market since the 2007 model year, and with both Ford and RAM upgrading their own trucks, it was time that GM offered an upgraded truck of its own.  Yesterday morning, they did just that, in a webcast.  Click past the jump for the video and my analysis of GM’s new trucks.
