Chronicling the Ever-Changing Automotive Industry
The numbers are (mostly) in, and the news isn’t good. August sales were down over 5% from July’s, and none of the major automakers were even close to the amount of vehicles they moved in July. Toyota took the biggest hit percentage-wise, followed by Ford and GM. Honda was only down about 4,000 vehicles overall, and almost everyone else stayed flat. Last year, Motor Trend took a 2010 Ford Mustang GT, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, and a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T and compared them. They got all sorts of feedback, ranging from readers who were upset because the top-dog Challenger SRT-8 wasn’t in the test, to those who felt the Chevy shouldn’t have won, no matter how much (or little) it was better than the Ford. The 2011 Buick Regal, seen here, will be built in Canada, at GM of Canada’s Oshawa plant, alongside the 2011 Camaro Convertible. Both will start to be built in Quarter 1 of 2011, a curious time, considering most 2011 model-year cars will be on the roads starting in the second half of 2010. Regardless, the Regal will be Buick’s second car in its renaissance. First up was the LaCrosse, the flagship sedan of the marque. The Regal will be a midsize sports sedan, available with a V6 or even a 4-cylinder engine, and a manual transmission. It’s been a long time since a Buick came with a manual transmission, but with the cheaper cost of the 4-cylinder and manual transmission, Buick is aiming squarely at its luxury rivals in the hopes of stealing away younger buyers. If you’ve been following Road Reality for a while, you saw the posts when the 2011 Mustang V6 and GT engines were announced, but up until now, nobody outside of Ford has driven or ridden in one. Apparently Arthur St. Antione got to at least do the latter. He went out to Ford’s Arizona proving ground, where he was driven around in a 2011 Mustang V6. At 2009′s SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas, GM showed off some special edition Camaros, promising to bring the most popular ones to market. Well, they’ve finally come through on that promise, by building the Synergy Special Edition. It’s the V6 Camaro, with the Camaro Convenience and Connectivity Package (Bluetooth, USB, iPod connections, plus remote start on automatic-transmission equipped cars), and lots of green, for $26,790.
