February was a great month for new-car sales, with the total volume up 21.28% over January, and almost 27% over February of 2010. Those are the overall numbers, but the general trend for February was that American car companies had a good time, while most of their overseas competitors struggled. Part of making and keeping an automotive brand viable is introducing new cars to its lineup. The built-in mechanism for this is that each generation of a car model gets bigger than its predecessor. This leads to an opening beneath what was once your entry-level car, for a new entry-level car. GM has another power steering fluid leak on its hands, this time on the Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS, affecting 2010-2011 model years for both vehicles. If you’re an owner of a 2009-2010 GM-built 3-row crossover, including the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, expect a recall letter in the mail. GM has announced a recall of the 2nd row seatbelt, after several complaints of the seatbelt not functioning properly after the seat is folded flat and then returned to its upright position.
