Review: 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost Lariat

Two years ago, when I was starting up Road Reality, I reviewed a 2010 Ford F-150.  It was a Lariat model with then-optional 5.4-liter V8.  In that review, I said I was impressed.  Since I was in the market for a full-size pickup truck and with a complete overhaul of the F-150′s engine options, a test drive of the new truck was in order.  I also reviewed the 2011 GMC Sierra and test drove a 2011 RAM 1500, so the inevitable comparisons began in earnest – which you’ll find in an upcoming article.  It may be a spoiler, but I brought the Ford F-150 home for good, trading in my 2010 Nissan Maxima.  Continue reading for a full-on review of Ford’s latest F-150.

LA Auto Show 2011: The 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302

Introduced for the 2011 model year, the spiritual successor to the Boss 302 of the late 1960s and early 1970s combined speed and handling with Ford’s Mustang GT.  The result was nothing short of amazing, with comparisons to BMW’s M3, among others.  For the 2013 model year, Ford is cranking the Boss 302 up another notch, mostly in its appearance.  Read on for more details and Ford’s press release.

LA Auto Show 2011: 2013 Ford Mustang

So, I’ve already shown pictures and gone through the big changes for the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500, and now it’s time to delve into its more mass-market brother, the Mustang (and Mustang GT).  With a refresh in 2010 and new engines for the 2011 model year, the Mustang isn’t due for another big redesign until 2015.  Until then, a few minor modifications will have to suffice.  Read on for pictures and details, as well as Ford’s press release.

Ford Releases Fuel Economy Numbers for 2011 Ford F-150: 3.7-liter V6 Gets 23 MPG!

Pending final EPA certification, the 3.7-liter V6 in the upcoming 2011 Ford F-150 will get you a stellar (for a truck, anyway) 23 mpg on the highway, and 16 mpg around town.  The 5.0-liter V8 gets you 15/21 city/highway, which rivals its GM counterparts’ fuel economy numbers.  While these numbers are preliminary, they can’t be too far off base or Ford wouldn’t release them.  Click past the jump for complete breakdowns and comparisons.  Truck fans will be especially interested in the Ford-provided charts at the bottom.

2011 Ford F-150 Followup – 20% Increase in Fuel Economy?

According to a press release published by Ford today, the four engines available on its upcoming 2011 F-150 pickup should yield 20% gains in fuel economy compared to the same models in 2010.  Since no V6 is available on the 2010 F-150, this is a believable number, especially considering the advanced engine technologies used to craft the new 5.0 and 6.2-liter V8s.  As a recap, the engines available in the 2011 F-150 will be the 3.7-liter V6, 5.0 and 6.2-liter V8s, and later on in the model year, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6.  If the 20% number comes true, look for fuel economy numbers to be 14-17 city, 18-24 highway.

2011 Ford F-150 to get 3 new engine choices

Automotive News is reporting that Ford will be giving buyers of its F-150 pickup truck 3 new engine choices for the 2011 model year.  Those new choices include a 3.7-liter V6, which replaces the current base V8, a 5.0-liter V8, and an EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6.  If any of those choices sound familiar, you’re right.  The first two engines are found in the V6 and V8 2011 Mustang, respectively.  The third one, the EcoBoost V6, is available in several Ford and Lincoln models.
