Q&A: Chevrolet Volt vs. Nissan Leaf

2011 Chevrolet Volt

Now that both the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf are in consumers’ hands, I thought I’d share my thoughts on the subject of Electric Vehicles, or EVs.

The 2011 Ford Explorer, which has undergone an extensive redesign, so far as to make it car-based rather than truck-based, has another ace up its sleeve in the new crossover/SUV wars: a bump to 17/25 city/highway gas mileage for its base V6, a full 25% increase over last year’s V6 model.  Click past the jump for more details and the full press release.

1,000 Laps of Mustang: The Results Are In!

Way back in March, I reported that Ford was challenging itself to a race in its new Mustang.  But not with a bunch of them, only one.  The race wasn’t even against time, it was against fuel mileage.  With EPA-certified 19/31 city/highway gas mileage for the 2011 Mustang V6, Ford wanted to really show consumers that it wasn’t just hype.  So they set off for Bristol Speedway in Tennessee for the event.

Jay Leno’s Garage: 2011 Ford Mustang GT

Jay Leno may be known for The Tonight Show, but outside of that, he’s known for his web show, Jay Leno’s Garage.  This week, Jay took out a 2011 Ford Mustang GT, and put it through a fairly thorough test drive, including freeways, corners, and even a burnout.  He does a walk-around with the car, showing off some of its features, and he harps on the 412-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine a lot.  Jay Leno has a 65 Mustang GT350, one of the faster variants from the 1960′s, and he apparently loves driving it.  After driving the 2011 model, he agrees, and even goes as far as comparing it to pricier cars from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.  Click past the jump to see the video.

Hot Car, Literally: Tata Nano catches fire

An insurance agent by the name of Satish Sawant recently took delivery of his brand new Tata Nano, in Mumbai.  He doesn’t have a license to drive yet, so he arranged to be chauffeured home in his new ride.  On the way home, however, a motorcyclist pulled alongside and motioned to the rear of the vehicle.  When Sawant looked around, he saw that the rear end of his brand new car was engulfed in flames.  He and the driver got out of the car safely, but as you can see, the car didn’t fare so well.

Video: Overseas Nissan Commercial

The Nissan Maxima was redesigned for 2009, with smaller dimensions, less weight, and more power.  The interior was redone to be more driver-centric, and they added a lot of luxury bells and whistles, usually reserved for the brand’s luxury component, Infiniti.  Thanks to the guys at Maxima.org, we’ve found the YouTube video below.  While obviously not intended for American audiences, it provides a good look at the Maxima – inside and out.  Click past the jump to see it.
