Update: Toyota halts sales of recalled cars

To say it’s been a rough few months for Toyota would be a gross understatement.  Toyota announced last week that there were 2.3 million vehicles being recalled over gas pedal wear & tear issues.  Now they’ve announced that sales of the affected cars will be halted until the fix for the recall has been performed on them.  These aren’t the same cars from the 3.8-million vehicle recall, mind you, so no Lexus or Scion vehicles are being held by dealers.  I have a feeling that Toyota is only halting sales of the models listed below in response to the pressure put upon them by automotive web sites and customers, but am glad to see it nonetheless.  Click past the jump for the list of models being held by dealers.

Fun Stuff: 2011 Audi R8 Promotional Video

It’s hump day, and if you’re in the D.C. metro area, the meteorologists are calling for snow this weekend and the temperature is in the 40-degree (Fahrenheit) range.  No better time than this to watch a video of a convertible, and a fast one at that.  The Audi R8 is the supercar from VW’s luxury arm, a car that shares some of its components with Lamborghini, also controlled by VW.  This isn’t the run-of-the-mill V8-powered R8 either, it’s the 2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder.  Follow the jump to see the video.

PSA: Got a dead battery?

Image Source: http://www.sendafriendautocare.com/images/car-battery.jpgFor many decades, the only electronics in cars were their radios, lights and ignition systems.  Then came power windows and locks, followed by fuel injection, which introduced computers to the automobile.  Then sensors galore, and with them, more computers.  Nowadays, satellite navigation, touch screens and high-powered sound systems are standard or optional on most vehicles.  With all the new electronic gizmos that automakers have added to their products, it’s no wonder that car batteries die quicker.  Not to mention motorized seats and mirrors.

Another Recall for Toyota? More accelerator woes

By now, it should be common knowledge that Toyota recalled 3.8 million vehicles in late 2009 over floor mats that can cause a car’s gas pedal to become stuck, causing unwanted acceleration.  While this recall affects the same pedal, it’s for a different set of vehicles, and has a different cause.  The total number of cars in this recall is 2.3 million.  Read on for more details.

GM’s Aveo RS: Not just an econobox anymore?

At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, GM took the wraps off of its Aveo RS, its first entry into the burgeoning Premium Small Car market.  The Mini Cooper, built by BMW, started the market, also known as the “C Segment” cars, but nowhere near the traditional C Segment cars of late.  With the Ford Fiesta, Mazda Mazda2, and a host of others, Chevrolet is tossing its hat into the ring with a redesigned Aveo.  The first model, the RS, is a performance-oriented version of the Aveo, but still keeps part of its focus on fuel economy, and the rest on premium features and materials.

Recall: 2009-2010 Chrysler/Dodge/Jeeps being recalled over Brake failure?

As if Chrysler doesn’t have enough trouble selling cars, it’s been revealed that they are recalling about 24,000 vehicles of the 2009 and 2010 model years.  It seems that a retaining clip can deform or come off completely, leading to complete brake failure, which is never a good thing.  If you’ve got one of the vehicles listed below, contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.  Continue reading for the model listing.
