Under the Hood: 2011 Mustang V6

When someone pictures a Ford Mustang, they picture a brawny V8, dual exhaust, and smoking tires.  In the background, the V6 quietly saves its owner on insurance and at the pump, and is actually Ford’s bread-and-butter Mustang.  For years, it’s had to make do with 6-cylinder engines that had neither the horsepower nor the refinement to truly compete in the sports coupe arena.  But that’s all about to change.

Review: 2010 Chrysler 300 Touring

2010_Chrysler_300_FrontThe Chrysler 300 started its life in 2005, the successor to the 300M and Concorde.  At the time, Daimler-Benz had controlling interest in Chrysler, so they donated the Mercedes-Benz E Class’ underpinnings.  The Chrysler 300 was most noted for its exterior styling, reminiscent of the “gangster” cars from the 1930’s and 1940’s, with it’s “gun slit” windows, long hood and trunk.  Since its introduction, the Chrysler 300 has yet to see a major refresh, only receiving minor styling, interior and engine modifications.  How has the design of the 300 dated since it was first put on sale?  Read on to find out.

Breaking News: Ford, Geely come to terms with Volvo's Intellectual Property

As part of Ford’s renaissance, they have been cutting costs and pumping money into research and development (R&D).  It started in 2007, when current CEO Alan Mulally was hired.  He immediately leveraged part of Ford in order to get $4 billion in operating costs, which he then sunk into R&D to bring Ford’s car offerings up to par with their foreign rivals.

The fruits of those labors are coming to fruition, with Ford’s Fusion taking Motor Trend’s Car of the Year award for 2010, and many other Ford cars being received well by American consumers.  Another thing Mulally did was to begin selling off underperforming brands that Ford owned.  First, Aston Martin was sold to a British conglomerate, and then Land Rover and Jaguar were sold to Tata Motors, an Indian company.  Ford then sold its controlling interest in Mazda, and Volvo went up for sale.

Hot Car: 2011 CTS Coupe

Cadillac’s hero car, the CTS, was designed from the beginning to bring Cadillac into the 21st century and show that they could compete with the likes of BMW and Mercedes.  Introduced as a 2003 model, and redesigned for the 2008 model year, the CTS has indeed shown its competition that America can still build great cars, worthy of the world’s attention.  In fact, the high performance edition of the CTS sedan, called the CTS-V, was pitted against the BMW M5, another purebred sports sedan, and beat it!  This past year, Cadillac announced that they were coming out with a wagon based on the CTS, called the CTS Sport Wagon, which is on sale now.  Today, they announced a new sibling to the CTS and CTS Sport Wagon, called the CTS Coupe.
